Respite & Short-Term Care
Short-term stays with the same care and attention we provide our permanent residents.
Respite Care
Support for Family Caregivers
Many people caring for a parent at home do so for years without a break. It is not sustainable, and caregivers who are exhausted cannot provide the care they want to.
A respite stay is a short, planned stay at Regency House while you travel, recover from your own medical needs, attend to work, or simply rest. Respite residents receive the same care as our permanent residents: a private apartment, three meals a day, medication management, housekeeping, the activity calendar, and a care team on site around the clock.

Common Situations
When a Short-Term Stay Helps
- A caregiver needs time — travel, a family event, surgery, or rest that is long overdue
- Recovery after a hospital stay — when returning home alone is not yet safe
- A trial stay — a genuine experience of the community before a longer commitment
- A gap in home care — when an aide leaves or arrangements fall through
- Seasonal needs — when living alone becomes a concern during winter months
Trial Stays
A Trial Stay Before a Permanent Decision
Your parent forms their own view
Rather than discussing a hypothetical, they experience the community directly. Many residents who were initially reluctant decide for themselves after a short stay.
You see how we operate
A tour shows you the building. A stay shows you how a call is answered in the evening and whether the staff know your parent’s name within a few days.
No long-term commitment
If it is not the right fit, your parent returns home with nothing lost but a few weeks’ cost. If it is, the most difficult decision has already been made.
Practical Information
What to Expect
How short can a respite stay be?
Stays are typically a few days to several weeks, depending on availability and your parent’s care needs. Call (423) 870-0050 with your dates and we will tell you what can be arranged.
How is a respite stay priced?
Short-term stays are generally charged at a daily rate covering the apartment, meals, personal care and medication administration. Because the rate depends on the apartment and the level of care required, we quote it directly. Please call and we will provide the figure for your dates.
What should we bring?
Comfortable clothing for the length of the stay, toiletries, any mobility equipment, and a complete current list of medications with the prescribing physicians. We review the list with you before arrival so that nothing is missed on the first day.
Is an assessment required for a short stay?
Yes. Even for a stay of a few days, we complete a brief nursing assessment of health history, medications and mobility. It is how we keep every resident safe.
Can a respite stay become permanent?
Often, yes. It is one reason families choose respite first. If your parent settles in and an apartment is available, we can usually convert a short-term stay into permanent residence without a second move.
